Endangered Orangutans
Alissa, Alexis, Daniel Abiotoc Factors:Biotic Factors: Climate- 3,100 miles long with about 20,000 islands strung between Asia and Australia, winds called monsoons, four seasons winter northeast monsoon, southern summer monsoon, and two intermonsoons, they get typhoons and other severe weather IN ALL, THEY HAVE A TROPICAL MOIST CLIMATE.
Humidity- is most important as a fire- weather factor in the layer near the ground, where it influences both fuels and fire behavior. Orangutans like high humidity do to there thick layers of fur so it normally stays at around 100% Humidity.
Orangutans have very thick furs but don't mind heat or the fact of precipitation in the air. The temperature they are you used to is between 60 degrees fahrenheit and 85.
With Orangutans having very thick fur and them need to live at a high density area that gives the warm wet air that they like making them like on mountain tops with forest areas that you can find in Asia.
Southeast Asian Rainforest
Importance of Ecosystem: Orangutans can survive in degraded disturbed tropical rainforests but they simply can’t survive in any other ecosystem. They need this ecosystem because they need they types of food in order to get protein so they can feed the young to keep their species alive. As well as helping their young they as well help other animals such as birds by breaking open fruits and such for birds to feed off of. Therefore if we killed off Orangutans such as we are doing than it would have an effect on several other things and it would cause problems throughout the ecosystem. Threats to Ecosystem: Humans are the biggest threat to orangutans because they are taking away the habitats and kidnapping baby orangutans to sell or kill them. Palm oil palm plantations there are 11 million hectares of them globally and they are taking over rainforests just like the one orangutans live in, it causes clear-cutting, forest fires and greater access to traders and hunters. Orangutans live in the areas that are good for oil palm, fertile lowland next to rivers, they reduce the amount of natural habitat the orangutans have to live in, increased poaching, fires not only wipe out their land to live but many orangutans burn to death when caught in these fires, and sometimes farmers and plantation owners shoot the orangutans because they are “pests”.
